Copy/Paste: Jesse Lubinsky

I'm so glad I met Jesse Lubinsky: my affinity group coach, kindred spirit, and fellow Google innovator!  His presentations at the #DEN18 Academy were engaging and inspiring (when they didn't involve tasting things).

He too admires Gil Scott Heron, one of my all time favs!

A few days before leaving for Denmark, I jotted down this note:

I was thinking about what is play for me. Well, I like math or at least conceptualizing math problems.  What if I measured samples in a really good jam, and graphed how much of the sample was used in the entire song, and then what percentage of the sample is used in the sweet spot/hook?  I have no idea how to actually measure this, but it makes me laugh to think about how to quantify it, and I began listening to music with a different ear.  I think Jesse could dig it. I was pleasantly surprised when Gil's photo popped up at #DEN18. I was already 'playing' with this idea before the trip specifically listening to Gil's samples in music.

After Jesse's talk about: the faithful, the twist, the curve, the spin, the wait. what? remixes in music I'm listening to music searching for the 'remix' too.  In a roundabout way I wound up with this Toto platinum album.  Jesse, If I'd known I would've brought it to Copenhagen to bestow on your for your great Spark Toto remix analogies!
 This one is for you:

My problem / project for #DEN18 was inspired by research that I’m interested in.  I would love to study limbic, spontaneous sparks that come from freeing up that part of the brain through breaks, or play.  Like Rex Jung says, "Are we leaving time for new connections, building our brains to be stronger creatively?”

In Jesse's spark he talked about how creative people work, and I liked what he said about patience and how our schools cater to conceptual genius.  He pointed out how we need to give kids time!  I agree.

I'm happy to have found his podcast, check it out.
Stay awesome and thanks for the inspiration, Mr. Lubinsky.
Until our paths cross again.
